NEW ROUNDS, NEW RACE FOR WSORR (07/08/07)

CRANDON, Wisc. – The Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) is on center stage this summer and WSORR has announced makeup rounds and special races for its Professional Division classes at two famous off-road tracks on August dates.

WSORR’s PRO 4x4, PRO 2WD and PRO Light Pickup classes will have a televised makeup round Friday, August 10 at Bark River International Off-Road Raceway. These races piggy-back existing rounds of WSORR race action. The special Friday racing at the historic track in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula begins at 6 p.m.

With the announced changes, WSORR SRT classes will race 12 points rounds for season championships. The SRT division continues with three hours on SPEED TV. PRO classes will race 13 points rounds for WSORR season championships. Two special showdown races for PRO 4x4 and 2WD race trucks are part of the TV package. These are the FCP Chairman’s Cup Challenge recently won by Lucas Oil Nissan BFGoodrich SoBe racer Carl Renezeder and the World Championship BorgWarner Shootout at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway over Labor Day weekend.

A special showdown challenge event for WSORR’s PRO Light Pickup class will also be raced Friday evening, August 31 at Crandon at 6 p.m. The race will feature an added “Cup” purse, a special Potawatomi PRO Light Pickup Showdown Cup, and will be televised. The Cup race is the first of its type in the history of off-road racing for the class.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Doug Davis, president and general manager, WSORR, about the special PRO Light Pickup Showdown race. “The time is now and we are going to have a special big money, very high profile sprint race for these fast and high energy mid-size pickup trucks.” The race will feature the Potawatomi PRO Light Showdown Cup victory circle prize, victory wreath and special high dollar purse.

Crandon Raceway has a history of innovating, developing and promoting famed Cup races including the FCP Chairman’s Cup Challenge Race (1994) and the BorgWarner Shootout for the $125,000 silver and gold BorgWarner Cup (1995) . “The Potawatomi PRO Light Pickup Showdown Cup will join these prestigious single race events,” said Cliff Flannery, president, Crandon Raceway.

The next event on WSORR’s Tour 2007 are Rounds V & VI this coming July 14-15 with the Boss Snowplows Off-Road Challenge presented by Island Resort Casinos at Bark River International Off-Road Raceway. In what is already a do or die points struggle in many classes, the Bark River races are pivotal to racers earning important WSORR inaugural points championships.
