RECORD $100,000+ PURSES MARK EPIC OFF-ROAD RACES IN OWATONNA (5-6-07)

CRANDON, WI – The largest weekend purses in the history of short course off-road racing – in excess of $100,000 -- will greet Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) competitors at the May 19-20 Owatonna Off-Road Nationals at Steele County Fairgrounds in Owatonna, MN.

“We are pleased to be offering a record total purse for our inaugural season opener,” said Doug Davis, general manager, WSORR. “Purse amounts for all racers across the board have at least doubled from a year ago,” he said. “As always, the driver is at the top of our priority list.”

WSORR has announced a 2007 posted consolidated race purse of more than $800,000 – also a record.

Davis thanked the Forest County Potawatomi – a thriving Native American tribe in Wisconsin with a long-term interest and investment in professional off-road racing -- for supporting the 2007 purse. “We have two of the most solid, stable long-term partners in title sponsor Lucas Oil and our presenting sponsor the Forest County Potawatomi Community,” said Davis. “Their generous support has allowed us to earmark record amounts for racer purses,” he said.

Leading the way are WSORR PRO classes including daily first place purses of more than $4,000 per race in the 4x4 class. WSORR races one round on Saturday May 19 and the final round on Sunday May 20 at Steele County Fairgrounds. “Win both ends of the opening Rounds I & II at Owatonna in PRO 4x4 and take home more than $8,000,”

“Add to that our record contingency purse of nearly $1.5 million and we are really cooking,” said Davis. Other podium finishers in the PRO 4x4 class daily win $2,430 and $1,620. Total weekend race purse for PRO 4x4 is $27,000.

The PRO 2WD class features $11,000 at stake per race or $22,000 for the weekend. First, second and third place podium finishers receive $3,300, $1,980 and $1,320 respectively

PRO Light Pickup, one of the largest classes, has $14,000 up for grabs for the weekend. PRO Light race winners will receive $2,100 while runner-up will pocket $1,260.

WSORR’s SRT Division has also been boosted substantially. Six classes will share record amounts. A first place win for Super Truck pays $1,650; Super Buggy and Stock Truck pays $1,455; 1600 and 1600 Lite Buggy $960; and Formula 4x4 Truck will take home $750 per win.

Selected tracks on WSORR’s Tour 2007, such as Crandon International Off-Road Raceway will be posting purses in excess of $160,000 for the weekend with special “Heavy Metal” Challenge races.

WSORR is the country’s largest short course off-round racing organization in the U.S. In addition to the Forest County Potawatomi and Lucas Oil, other key WSORR sponsors include BorgWarner, Toyo Tires, KC HiLites, Skyjacker, American Racing Wheels, Sunoco and United Trailers.
